Abstract

The influence of organic matter applied (durian peelings and Chicken manure) on slightly acidic soil at MVC planted with corn (Zea mays) was conducted on pot experiment at the Agriculture Department of Mountain View College, Valencia City. The experiment was conducted to obtain the following objectives: 1) To evaluate the effect of durian peeling and chicken manure on the height, soil pH, organic matter content and dry matter yield of corn 2) To assess the influence of decomposed durian peelings and chicken manure on the growth of corn grown in slightly acidic soil at Mountain View College.

Results showed that at 20 days after germination highest average height was obtained from treatment 3 at 20.81 with addition of 6 tons chicken manure ha-1. This value is significantly different over the control. However, at 30 days after germination highest average height was obtained from treatment 2 with combined application of 3 tons of durian peelings +3 tons of chicken manure no significant difference among treatments.

Highest pH of 6.2 was obtained at treatment 3 with application of 6 tons of chicken manure ha01. This value was significantly higher over treatment 1, 2, and the control. Soil organic matter content at 30 days after germination found no significant difference among treatments but significantly higher over the control. However, dry matter yield of corn at 30 days after germination significantly increased at the applications of 3 tons chicken manure ha-1 + 3 tons durian peelings at 510.66 kg ha-1 over the control. This value did not vary significantly from the application of 6 tons in both durian peelings and chicken manure ha-1.
