The prevlence and possible contributing factors to helminthic infection from the selected communiities in the province of Bukidnon, Philippines.

The research paper determines the prevalence of helminthic infections both in children and adults, and its correlation according to the age of the affected individuals from selected communities in the Province of Bukidnon, Helminthes are parasites that are common and mostly affect the developing countries. It is the most common infectious agent to humans; were some often found in children more than in adults. A survey of fecal specimens using Kato-Katz smear method was purposively and successfully conducted among the selected communities living along Pulangi River. Three different sampling sites were chosen in the Province of Bukidnon and the sampling was done on December 18-21, 2011. Examination for the ova was done among the residents of the area were the study was conducted. Among 423 study projects from 3 sampling sites aged 0-80 years old, there are 164 participants and 39 of them were found positively infected with helminthes. The prevalence of helminthic infection was 24.2% found in the males and females population. Trichuris trichuria are extremely common parasites nearly 28.2%, co-infection which is 23.1%, Ascaris lumbrocoides 20.5%, Schistosoma japonicum 15.4%, Hookworms, Heterophytes 5.1% and Enterobius vermicularis 2.6%, The result of the parasitological examination showed that the prevalence and distribution of the parasitic infection varies by place and age and highly remain endemic in areas where there is a problem with environmental sanitation in the communities along the Pulangi River in the Province of Bukidnon, Philippines.
